Yggdrasil reports as Trojan on Windows 10 #1082

Hello,

I have been working on a small systray enhancement on Windows 11 Pro that would allow it to be installed as a service and then allow the user to control it from there with functions like "start", "stop", "status", etc. Also, I compiled Yggdrasil from the sources as well.

I just saw that Windows Defender is reporting it as a virus:

Trojan:Win32/Wacatac.B!ml

Although, I do suspect that it is a False Positive, I wanted to report this and try to get some information.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

It wouldn't be the first time that Windows Defender has incorrectly classified Yggdrasil as a virus. Many Go applications seem to be affected by the same problem. We have submitted false positive reports before.

if you are building your own system tray program you'll want to pull in an official signed release build of yggdrasil that you embed into your windows installer for your system tray you are writing and then code sign all of your executable binaries and the final windows installer which all of them are contained in.

if yggdrasil releases are not hitting AV that is a good sign but you too will have to do the song and dance of the windows code signing with a certified signing key purchased on subscription from Microsoft. It's a pain but that is the cost for playing nice with Microsoft's over zealous grandma computer nanny daemon that is windows defender.

sounds like it might be a challenge, but hopefully I will be able to figure it out and perhaps contribute back to the Yggdrasil development effort.

Thanks again
