Feature Request

There are a number of layout modules that aim at showing the keyboard layout - each of those using different underlying mechanisms and having different restrictions.

Unify those into a single module that automatically detects the "best available" way to determine the current keyboard layout - and how to change it.

Add a new module "layout" that will eventually evolve into the only
keyboard layout module.

Right now, it uses an external binary (get-kbd-layout) to determine the
layout of a keyboard device (because I did not manage to call libX11
with ctypes correctly).
